Holy is His Name

We are never in any manner to treat lightly the titles or appellations of the Deity. The angels veil their faces in His presence. The cherubim and the bright and holy seraphim approach His throne with solemn reverence. How much more should we finite, sinful beings, come in a reverent manner before the Lord, our maker!

We are never to pray to God in a common manner. Addressing God with sacred words, should never pass our lips except in subdued tones and with feelings of awe. Those who realize the greatness and majesty of God, will take His name on their lips with holy reverence. Our God dwells in light unapproachable. No man can see Him and live.

The scriptures declares of God, “Holy and reverend is His name.” “Neither be you called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.” Matthew 23:10. To no human being is such a title befitting. “The name of the Lord is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression and sin.” Exodus 34:5-7. “He is the Lord our righteousness.” Jeremiah 33:16. Oh wonderful thought - This name is put upon every follower of Christ. (A shortened version from The Faith I Live By, by E.G. White p. 41).
