Satan’s Snare

The devil is ever presenting worldly gain and honor to entice humanity from the services of God. In one way he tells man that it’s his over conscientiousness that keeps him from prosperity. Thus many are enticed to venture out of the path of strict integrity to God. Man flatters himself that he can depart from strict integrity to God for a time, and that he can change his course when he pleases. That’s how man entangles himself in the snare of Satan, and it is seldom that he can escape.

God will not be trifled with. He often permits man to follow his own desires and to suffer the result. “My people would not hearken to MY voice…..So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.” Psalms 81:11, 12. If one clearly sees a duty, let him not presume to go to God with the prayer that he may be excused from it. Rather, with a humble, submissive spirit, ask for divine strength and wisdom to meet it (I made some word changes to make it easier for reading, from Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 440, 441).
