Impossibilities without Faith
There are many things that can happen to us to test our faith in God – sufferings, prosperity of the wicked, calamities that come through storms, fire, draught and more. Such experiences make a strong faith in God necessary. All else is dead when faith in God dies. But our faith in God would grow if we could see His vast universe. Just think, the moon is about 240,000 miles away. The sun more than 92,000,000 miles away. It would take 215 years to reach the sun at the speed of fifty miles an hour. Mars is 248,000,000 miles out there and it travels around the sun once in 687 days, going at the speed of 49,000 miles an hour. Jupiter at 600,000,000 miles away travels around the sun once in twelve years, going at the speed of 30,000 miles an hour. Saturn, 1,028,000,000 miles away, travels around the sun once in twenty years going at the speed of 21,500 miles an hour.
One day when a Mr. Bryan was in one of his races for the Presidency he looked into a telescope. When he turned away he stated, “Well, after viewing what I’ve just seen it does not matter who will win the election. The God of the universe is both your God and mine, and He wants to direct both our lives, so let’s have faith in God.” (My thoughts with In the Morning, W. B. Ochs, p. 202).
