Holiness is an Attribute of God
Because God is holy, we are admonished to be holy. He who is holy calls us and that we should be holy also in our thoughts and actions. We are not to conform to this world and the things that are in this world. We are not to satisfy our evil, pleasure-seeking desires. Because we are selfish by nature, we will sometimes heed to temptation and will sin. In Revelation 4 the triune Godhead is described as “holy, holy, holy.” This makes God’s holiness the essence of His beautiful character.
We should pray to live by how the Spirit wants us to live and not gratify ourselves. Wouldn’t you rather have your character be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? The Holy Spirit is always willing to help us have the above attributes and we can, with His help be conformed to live holy lives. Contemplate this: that you were chosen by God before the foundation of this world was laid and that Jesus loved humanity so much He made the atoning sacrifice to save everyone. And remember when you pursue your own ways you cannot seek the face of God because you will become blinded by the worldly ways (My thoughts with Bongga Agno, of the Philippines, Collegiate Quarterly, February 6, 2017).
