His Hands
After His resurrection Jesus said to doubting Thomas, “Behold my hands.” Why would Jesus say, Behold my hands”? When we think of the Saviour we think of His loving, sympathetic, and kind heart; His wounded; bruised and bleeding brow; His stripe-marked back; and His smitten face. In those hands are nailprint scars, which make His hands different from any other hands. With His hands He toiled. With His hands He led. With His hands He protected. When Peter was sinking he cried in desperation, “Lord, save me.” Christ reached out His hand and Peter clasped it. If we are not helped, the fault is found in us. God has not and does not change. He is ready at all times to give us His helping hand. When we lack the power that we need, then the channel between us and heaven must be closed. We are to blame if it closes. We need to let go of every earthly support and take the hand of Him who lifted up and saved the sinking disciple on the stormy sea. “The Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save.” Isaiah 59:1 (My thoughts with In the Morning by Ochs, p. 39).
