Your Heart is the Vital Center of You

The quality of your life and your relationship with your spouse stems from your own heart. The key to your heart is if your heart has an OPEN sign in the window, then you are overflowing with love that will show. If you are in a painful relationship experience you will flip the sign over to CLOSED, and that’s when you are out of the love business. So if you learn the importance of the state of your heart and how to open it and protect it so it can remain open, your marriage can make it for a lifetime. Why is your heart so important? Because it’s the part that connects you with God. Listed below are some favorite responses when hundreds of married couples where asked to define “heart.” The wellspring of life A reflection of the true self The core of a person The deep center of one’s life The innermost part of the human personality The place we connect to God and others The essence of who we are The source of our real character The executive center of a human life. The heart where decisions and choices are made for the whole person. For those who have accepted Christ, your hearts are now the inner dwelling place of the most holy God. They are just as precious as the Holy of Holies. But how many treat their hearts that carefully? Too many ignore, reject, abandon, judge and abuse their hearts. Too many are careless with the most valuable part of who you are. The enemy knows how vital the heart is, and all his forces are fixed upon the hearts destruction. For if he can disable or deaden your heart, then he has effectively foiled the plan of God, which was to create a world where love reigns. By taking out your heart, the enemy takes out you. So once you begin to see with the eyes of your heart, and to know it is true from the bottom, it will change everything. The story of your life is the story of the long and brutal assault on your heart by the one who knows what you and your marriage could be and he fears it. Once you learn to unlock the door of your heart and throw it wide open to God’s love, your life and your marriage can be radically transformed (My thoughts with a condensed version from The Heart of Remarriage, by Gary and Greg Smalley, pages 18-20).
