Keeping God in the Picture
Job, a righteous man following God as perfectly as he knows how; conducts himself as a good husband, father, master, neighbor, and honorable citizen. But it seems suddenly, for no reason humanly discernible, an overwhelming flood of calamity sweeps over him, and when it has passed he has only his life, a miserable one at best, and his wife. And Job's eyes are closed by his adversities to the meaning of it all. He is shut up in the dark narrow cell of human limitation and he suffers, where to himself and his would-be comforters there comes no real gleam of light that explains the reason for his misfortunes. It seems Job could be an allegory of the whole of human history, with all its sufferings, its tragedies, deprivations, and questions with no human answers. Now take God out of the human picture and the whole of life becomes a stark question mark set up on a cold and bare mountain of human existence. Lets say that destiny without God can be a riddle; history without God turns into tragedy. Sadly there are multitudes that don't see the picture of divine purpose for their life; they cannot understand that behind the dim unknown stands God within the shadows, keeping watch over His own. Too many do not see that above the distractions of the earth God sits enthroned, where all things are open to His divine survey; and from His great and calm eternity He orders that which His providence sees best. Always, God knows what's best for humanity, even when we struggle when we face the trials life on earth warrants to us. Be hopeful, be positive, for God sends His love via so many unexpected avenues (My thoughts with Preludes to Prayer, page 195). Sherry
