Irresponsibility

Continuing the steps about “What is Maturity”:

One sign of a mature marriage is that both spouses are responsible and faithful in the relationship. That means they both do what they promise. They take initiative to solve problems. When one of you makes a mistake, you own up to it and do what it takes to make changes. Responsible spouses carry their end of the weight in the marriage. A spouse who fails to own their part of the responsibility in marriage is demonstrating immaturity (a good sentence to reread). This could be and a lot of times is a huge undertaking due to selfishness within either spouse. It’s like a Peter Pan who doesn’t want to grow up. One or both of you may be charming and loving, yet undependable and unreliable. In the growing up into the maturity process it would be wise to find out how you can become more aware of your responsibilities to your spouse. Irresponsibility is a sign that a spouse isn’t fully an adult yet (My thoughts with God’s help with Rescue Your Love Life, page 21). Sherry
