Facing up to our Mission in Life
Do you know the Jonah/Nineveh story? It's a mission story; fear of that mission, a run from that mission, get swallowed up neglecting that mission, living in darkness with no mission, and finally getting on tract through submission. Do you know your mission in life? Many struggle with that question. If you are an insecure person you will question if you can have a mission. If you excel in life, you may go on a mission, but totally lose the meaning of what a servant of a mission is. Your mission may be of a spiritual tone, yet without the living God in your life and with only your ideas, your mission will be purely selfish. If God's mission for you is to go to a specific place or to perform a specific task, it won't matter how far you flee from it or where you hide - you will still end up in "Nineveh." Too often we spend time and energy doing things we think will bring us happiness. We even ignore what is obviously God's wish for us in favor of doing what we want to do (on our own terms). The best thing we can do is to pray earnestly for God to help us discover what our mission is for life. Another good idea would be to stop doing those things that clearly take you away from God's mission for you. The longer you spend running away from "Nineveh," the longer you postpone your happiness and the feeling of true freedom in and with the Lord (My thoughts with the Collegiate Quarterly, page 80).
